Jakarta strikes

First time out is always the lucky charm – especially for Indonesia in the Heineken Thirst Asia Pacific 2005 deejay competition. Indonesia only activated its Thirst challenge this year and it picked up the main honours with Jakarta-based DJ Adhe sweeping the Thirst Asia finals at Retro Cafe at the Queen Sirikit Convention Centre in Bangkok last Saturday, beating DJ Switch from New Zealand and Altered Image from Kuala Lumpur for the ticket to represent Asia at next January’s Thirst Global finals in Cape Town, South Africa.

The hype about Jakarta’s burgeoning clubbing scene, with stories about non-stop three-day weekend parties, has travelled far and wide. And as one of the Indonesian dance scene’s promising names, the 21-year-old DJ Adhe (Adi Pria Devara Bachtiar) underlined Jakarta’s arrival on the regional clubbing map with his exploits in party hardy Bangkok.
