Passion for joget

WHAT started out as a wish on Tunku Zainab Tunku Zakaria’s part to compile Negri Sembilan’s joget songs gradually turned into the making of an album aptly titled Joget Negeri Sembilan. All the songs are composed by her, with five songs rooted in traditional arrangements.

Hisham Yasin, the album’s co-producer, also arranged the music. “Tunku Zainab, who is in her 70s, has no background in music. What she did was to sing the tune into a walkman-recorder. Then she got a composer from the Philippines to help her with the music arrangement,” said Hisham.
