Double take

IF the movie Aku Tak Bodoh is loosely adapted from the Chinese movie, I Not Stupid, Malaysian cinema-goers are also feted with another adaptation. It is Tamil movie Appalam, which was adapted from a Malay hit film Papadom, and is screening in cinemas nationwide.

Appalam tells the tale of Shruti who wants to further her studies in the city because she cannot stand her father Appalasamy controlling her every move. Worried about her daughter’s safety, Appalasamy works as a gardener so that he can keep an eye on her. Directed by Afdlin Shauki, the movie stars Gana Pragasam, Raja Ilya and Jaclyn Victor.
