Probably the main complaint that local filmmakers have about censorship, apart from the fact that censorship exists, is that the guidelines given by the Government are vague at best.
In Iran, a country of great filmmakers which is often used as a yardstick for measuring the flourish of creativity against strict censorship, the rules are very clear: only a woman’s face and hands can be shown; no jokes about the police, army or family; a man and a woman cannot have physical contact; among others. Thus, it is easier to know what to avoid, so say some local filmmakers.
