5G network likely to spur demand for semiconductor components

PETALING JAYA: The long-term outlook for the technology sector remains bright as a commercialisation of the 5G network could spur demand for semiconductor components despite a lull at the moment, according to UOB Kay Hian Research.

“The potential shift from the Chinese smartphone brands might also benefit companies such as Inari and Globetronics given their meaningful exposure to US and South Korean smartphone brands,” UOB Kay Hian Research said.

UK mobile operator Three to launch 5G broadband in August

LONDON: UK mobile operator Three on Monday said it would launch its first new-generation 5G broadband service in London in August and would roll out mobile and broadband across 25 towns and cities before the end of the year.

Three said its 2 billion pound 5G infrastructure investment included network improvements in major British cities and a cloud core network provided by Nokia.

China issues 5G licences

HONG KONG: China approved four operating licences for 5G networks, setting the stage for the super-fast telecommunications system amid simmering tensions with the US over technology and trade.
