Ringgit rises against US$ on higher oil prices

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit was slightly higher against the US dollar in the early trading session on Wednesday as better global oil prices lifted market sentiment for the local note.

At 9.21 am (0121 gmt), the ringgit stood at 4.1150/1200 versus the US dollar from 4.1160/1200 Tuesday.

Daimler is selling a truck that can brake, accelerate and steer on its own

LAS VEGAS: Daimler AG will start selling a heavy-duty truck in the US this year that’s able to brake, accelerate and steer at all speeds on its own. This will coincide with the planned launch of electric-car leader Tesla Inc’s Semi truck, which will stoke competition at a time when demand in North America is forecast to soften.

The updated Freightliner Cascadia, which also will have lane-keeping assistance, fuses information from radar and cameras to enable partially autonomous technology, Daimler said on Monday at the CES here

Proton-Perodua SUV race heats up

PETALING JAYA: The competition between Proton and Perodua is set to intensify as both companies will be pulling out all the stops to boost margins and regain market share with their first sport-utility vehicle (SUV).

“Perodua will focus on sales while Proton will focus on improving consumer perception. Proton will rely on the SUV to test the various operational reforms and processes that are being introduced to win back consumer confidence,” the research house said in a recent report.(File pix shows an X70.)
