BRANDING is a key area that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can improve on as it could determine the life and death of businesses.

The “Boss Talk” on July 25 aims to show SMEs how they can leverage their branding to gain a competitive edge. There will also be tips and advice on other business-related matters.

Featuring 988 FM deejay Chan Fong (pic), the talk will be conducted in Mandarin at Menara Star, Petaling Jaya, from 2pm onwards.

The radio veteran, who has spent over two decades in the industry, started live broadcasting in 1991 and is a familiar voice on the Chinese radio station.

He has also appeared in television dramas and hosted a number of local TV shows.

Chan’s diverse resume also includes being a speaker at various events since 2007 and the author of several books a few years ago.

He is also an entrepreneur in the advertising business and balances his time between the two industries. He started an advertising company with his friends in 1997, and left in 2002 to establish 180 Degree Strategic Communications Sdn Bhd (180 Degrees Brandcom) with his wife.

Chan, who was one of the winners of the China-Asean Top Business Awards 2017, now serves as the managing director of 180 Degrees Brandcom. The company has worked with well-known brands such as EcoWorld, Cuckoo and Ogawa.

As globalisation fosters stiffer competition for companies both locally and internationally, branding and positioning is necessary for differentiation.

He will draw from his experience to highlight important aspects related to the topic, which attendees will be able to learn from.

Among the other topics he will touch on include the entrepreneurial mindset, a company’s foundation, key success factors and the way forward for businesses, as well as other business concerns.

Attendees will have a chance to pick his brain for more during Boss Talk, as there will be a question-and-answer session towards the end of the event.

The half-day talk will also feature a Financial Literacy Chit Chat with CIMB Group commercial banking chief executive officer Victor Lee Meng Teck, to help entrepreneurs better understand the need for financial literacy and its role in business.

Boss Talk is organised by local Chinese-language radio station 988 FM and presented by CIMB Bank Bhd.
