RECIPIENT of The Star Outstanding Business Awards 2017 (SOBA 2017)’s Female Entrepreneur of the Year Award – Special Mention, Mandy Chew Siok Cheng, is the president of the multiple award-winning Lexis Hotel Group.

Incorporated in 1995, Lexis Hotel Group provides discerning leisure and business guests with practical and luxurious accommodations across various properties in Malaysia.

The Group is steadfast in offering professional management services for hotels and resorts, and has successfully built a strong, profitable and visible premier niche brand in the hospitality industry especially in managing award-winning unique water chalets as well as pool villas.

Chew is the second of six siblings and a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) in Business Administration graduate from University of Malaya.

She has more than three decades of professional hospitality experience.

Chew joined the renowned Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur in 1985 and subsequently became the director of human resources.

Chew was appointed as vice-president of business development in Metroplex Holdings Sdn Bhd (Leisure Division) 11 years later before being promoted to president.

She oversaw the operations of numerous hotels, a shopping mall, a vacation membership club, as well as an international hospitality college under the Legend group.

Chew also joined Sunway International Hotels and Resorts as the CEO in 2011.

Among her main roles include overseeing the profitability and smooth running of its 2,786 hotel rooms in Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Chew returned full-time as the president of Lexis Hotel Group in 2015, in time for the soft opening of Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson, the Group’s signature property.

The iconic Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson resembles the national flower of Malaysia and each of its 639 pool villa is equipped with private pool and steam room, giving guests convenience and total privacy.

It is the only resort with the proud holder of Guinness World Records for achieving “The most swimming pools in a resort at 643” and “The most overwater villas in single resort at 522”.

Meanwhile, Lexis Hotel Group also manages Lexis Suites Penang, Grand Lexis Port Dickson, and Lexis Port Dickson. The group has a few properties in the works, with a luxury hotel in the KLCC vicinity due in four years.

With plenty of job opportunities being offered to the locals, especially the folk of Negeri Sembilan, the group has contributed positively towards the tourism industry.

To date, the properties within the Lexis Hotel Group have attracted more than 3.3mil tourists from across 120 countries. It has also brought in healthy tourism dollars to the state.

Taking a conservative expenditure figure of just RM1,000 per guest, Lexis would have contributed more than RM4bil in tourism receipts.

In tandem with Lexis Hotel Group’s tagline “Hospitality is Our Passion”, Chew believes in instilling her team members to do things with zeal, and to think positively.

With a workforce exceeding 1,400 in Negri Sembilan alone, Lexis Hotel Group is easily the largest hospitality chain in the state, providing job opportunities to the locals from entry right through management levels.

When she is not chairing meetings and mentoring her team, Chew enjoys travelling and reading.

Being a ferocious reader, Chew asserts there is a lot that one can learn from books, while travelling lets one embrace other cultures and to think creatively – an important trait in order to stay ahead in the hospitality world.
