A student asked his master, “Please give me a way to achieve spiritual discipline.”
The master told him to sweep the floor, wash the dishes and dust the house. The student wondered loudly, “How can doing menial tasks be a wise practice”. The master told him, “When you sweep the floor, your action is in sweeping the floor, but your mind is miles away. In the same way, when you wash the dishes or dust the house, your mind is miles away from your action. To be able to integrate your mind, heart and the action being performed is a wise practice”.
