Animation World offers new concept for fans

CARTOON characters are always cute, lovable and endearing, and they never fail to perk you up.

Being a great fan of cartoons, Anakku Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Jasmine Chew decided to introduce the Animation World concept to the company’s latest range of merchandise.

Anakku is an established homegrown Malaysian company that offers trendy baby and children’s clothes and other products. With the new Animation World concept, the brand now has a more comprehensive product line from fashion-wear for babies and toddlers, feeding equipment, toiletries, watches, bags, soft toys and other accessories.

The idea of having cartoon characters was mooted by Chew several years ago after a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland with her family. But it took a while to get it off the ground, as she needed to get the brand licensing rights for the cartoon characters.

“We only had Mickey and Minnie Mouse in our range at that time. So, I wanted to add more cartoon brands to make shoppers excited. Seeing these colourful creations on our Anakku merchandise is like bringing my dreams to life,” said Chew during the launch of Animation World at Anakku’s outlet in Mid Valley recently.

She added that the unique retail experience would give Anakku’s loyal customers something attractive and fun.

“There are four new animation brands in our store — Hello Kitty, Anakku, Angry Bird and Doraemon. We also have Mickey and Minnie Mouse products. Each of these brands comes with attractive products like clothes, watches, accessories, bags and soft toys,” said the 45-year-old who is the mother of two teenagers.

The Animation World is expected to attract customers from all walks of life.

“We want customers to feel as though they are walking into a different world when they enter our stores,” said Chew, who has been with Anakku for the last eight years.

Though the target group is children, Chew is confident that adults will also be drawn to these cute and endearing characters like Hello Kitty, which has become a global sensation and the source of countless pop-culture references.

According to Chew, the 1,300 sq ft Animation World store in Mid Valley is the first of its kind by Anakku.

They have recently opened a second store in Queensbay Mall in Penang, East Coast Mall, Kuantan, Kulai Johor Baru and Pavilion Mall, Kuala Lumpur by the end of this year.

Chew expects Anakku’s revenue to experience double-digit growth with the launch of the Animation World concept.

”We hope to add more cartoon brands in the future and, at the same time, expand our stores to Anakku’s boutiques,” said Chew.

To encourage repeat customers, Anakku stores will have new offerings each month as Chew believes it is important to regularly have new products on offer to provide customers with more ways to appreciate their favourite characters.

“Repeat customers tend to become loyal customers, and loyal customers are key to a sustainable business. At the end of the day, having appreciative customers to your store is really rewarding, something that money cannot buy,” said Chew.
