CAPITAL formation via the local capital market could do with some rejigging. While Malaysia’s capital market does function reasonably well with governance structures in place and a healthy pipeline of public listings, some things do not look right.
Take the case of the recent listing of Oriental Kopi Bhd. This is a company that runs, albeit very successfully, a small kopitiam chain. It drew in RM1.6bil worth of applications from retail investors chasing only RM26.4mil worth of stock allocated to them.
