BNM maintains D-SIB status, capital requirements for Maybank, CIMB, Public Bank

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has maintained the designation of Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank), CIMB Group Holdings Bhd and Public Bank Bhd as domestic systemically important banks (D-SIBs) following its 2026 annual assessment.

In a statement, the central bank said the assessment, based on data as at end-2025, showed no changes to the list of D-SIBs or their corresponding higher loss absorbency (HLA) requirements.

Maybank and CIMB remain subject to an HLA requirement of 1% of risk-weighted assets each, while Public Bank's requirement remains at 0.5%.

The HLA requirements are additional capital buffers imposed on systemically important banks to strengthen their ability to absorb losses and safeguard financial stability.
