KUALA LUMPUR: The Securities Commission (SC) is exploring the establishment of a multi-stakeholder task force, involving regulators and professional bodies, to strengthen the competency and professionalism of company secretaries in Malaysian-listed companies.
SC chairman Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi said the proposed task force would include developing a standardised competency framework aligned with the evolving role of company secretaries.
“We are also working with Bursa Malaysia on the regulatory framework for company secretaries of listed companies to address, among others, their fit and properness as well as accountability,” he said.
He said the move was in response to feedback received during consultations on the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance 2026 to be issued this year. — Bernama
