Gamuda’s Australian JV wins RM2.69bil package

The award is the final major construction tender for the first stage of the Marinus Link project.

PETALING JAYA: Gamuda Bhd says TasVic Greenlink JV – a joint venture between the company’s wholly-owned Australian subsidiary DT Infrastructure Pty Ltd and Samsung C&T Corp – has been awarded the contract for the Marinus Link balance of works (BOW) package.

The A$994mil (RM2.69bil) award is the final major construction tender for the first stage of the Marinus Link project, which covers civil structural and electrical infrastructure.

The job scope entails building the converter station buildings, performing land cable civil works, and other onshore installation tasks that follow the awarding of the main cable and converter equipment contracts.

“Once delivered, the Marinus Link BOW Package will strengthen Australia’s renewable energy infrastructure by enabling greater connection between Tasmania and Victoria.

“The project will support emissions reduction by increasing grid reliability and renewable energy flow, while delivering long-term social value through local employment, skills development and responsibly managed environmental outcomes,” said Gamuda in its announcement to the stock exchange.

The Marinus Link project is owned by Marinus Link Pty Ltd, a company jointly held by the Commonwealth of Australia (49%), the State of Victoria (33.3%) and the State of Tasmania (17.7%).

According to the project website, the Marinus Link is a proposed undersea and underground electricity and data interconnector between North West Tasmania and the Latrobe Valley in Victoria.

Once completed, it will improve the connection between Tasmania and the national grid.

It will enable the flow of more electricity in both directions, delivering affordable, reliable and clean energy for customers in the National Electricity Market.
