BEIJING: Solar panel installations in China rose slightly in September from a near three-year low, and output of solar cells also increased.

A total of 9.66 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity was added last month, up from 7.36GW in August, which was the lowest level since November 2022, according to data released by the National Energy Administration yesterday.

The monthly figure still represents a sharp drop from the 20.89GW added a year earlier. Solar additions have remained low after hitting a record 93GW in May when developers rushed to install panels ahead of policy changes. Meanwhile, solar cell output reversed a downward trend since earlier this year. A total of 70.9GW was produced in September, up from 69.9GW a month ago. — Bloomberg
