UNIFI: A CONVERGENCE LEADER

Designed for Malaysia’s evolving digital lifestyles, UniVerse combines broadband, UNI5G Mobile, Unifi TV 2.0 and smart home services into one seamless ecosystem.

Malaysia’s digital lifestyle is changing faster than ever.

With 82% 5G population coverage, Malaysians are streaming, gaming, working and living online at unprecedented levels.

Fixed broadband has become the anchor of every digital home, while mobile, entertainment and smart-living technologies are reshaping what families expect from their service providers.

Yet as choices multiply, households are also facing subscription fatigue and rising costs.

At the same time, the telco industry itself is evolving, with analysts projecting only moderate growth in fibre-led revenues in the years ahead.

The message is clear: the future of the industry will not be built on fragmented offerings, but on convergence.

Providers that can integrate connectivity, mobility, entertainment and smart living into one seamless ecosystem will be best placed to deliver lasting value for households.

Unifi’s convergence leadership

Against this backdrop, Unifi, Telekom Malaysia Bhd’s (TM) business-to-consumer (B2C) arm that serves consumers and households nationwide, has emerged as a true quad-play provider.

Launched in 2024, its flagship UniVerse ecosystem integrates fixed broadband, UNI5G postpaid and prepaid, Unifi TV and smart home solutions into a single platform, supported by digital and human service models.

As of June, Unifi’s fixed broadband base expanded to 3.19 million users, representing a 1.4% year-on-year increase.

TM’s chief business and consumer officer Anand Vijayan said: “Unifi is no longer defined by broadband alone, but a ‘UniVerse’ where connectivity, entertainment, mobility and smart living converge into one seamless experience.

“By continuously perfecting our convergence offerings, Unifi has positioned itself as one of the frontrunners in the industry, backed by innovative solutions and trusted service quality that make us a solid brand.”

Convergence has also driven its brand repositioning, reinforcing its reputation as a brand consumers trust to deliver the best value and the most seamless digital lifestyle experience – all in one place.

From services to experiences

UniVerse was launched to meet rising consumer demand, offering simplicity and integration.

Instead of managing multiple bills, logins and fragmented streaming apps, households access a converged ecosystem where broadband, UNI5G mobile, Unifi TV and smart home solutions are aggregated under one platform.

To strengthen adoption, Unifi introduced several new innovations over the past year:

  • Family-centric packs that consolidate broadband, mobile and entertainment;
  • Malaysia’s first 5G postpaid plan bundled with Netflix;
  • Unifi TV 2.0, a fully cloud-based, app-driven service available even without a broadband subscription; and
  • Smart Home bundles that integrate AI (artificial intelligence)-powered security cameras and sensors, energy-efficient controls, professional installations and after-sales support.

For consumers, the value proposition lies in seamlessness, convenience and cost efficiency.

Meanwhile, for Unifi, this integrated model positions it as a trusted one-stop provider, attracting long-term loyalty.

Unifi TV 2.0

Global households are facing rising streaming costs, and Malaysia is no different. This has led entertainment to become a powerful convergence driver.

Unifi TV’s strategy addresses this head-on by aggregating 15 streaming apps and over 70 premium channels into one bill and platform, reducing subscription fatigue while enhancing discoverability.

The pivot to Unifi TV 2.0 has strengthened the business for future demand. By shifting to a cloud-based, app-driven model, Unifi TV is no longer tied to set-top boxes.

Customers can now access their accounts anytime, anywhere, across multiple devices, aligning with the consumption habits of digital-savvy users.

This model also enhances revenue resilience by bringing fragmented streaming app subscriptions together under UniVerse.

Unifi’s smart home services

Smart home adoption in Malaysia has historically been slowed by fragmentation and technical complexity.

Unifi’s approach is to mainstream the smart-living experience by offering plug-and-play solutions supported by its Elite Crews who handle professional installation and optimisation.

This ensures households gain security, convenience and energy efficiency without needing technical expertise.

Backed by nationwide broadband and after-sales warranties, Unifi is lowering the barrier to entry for smart living, transforming it from a niche to a mass-market proposition.

UNI5G as a lifestyle enabler

UNI5G, Unifi’s prepaid and postpaid mobile services, is also playing a pivotal role in convergence.

With unlimited 5G/4G data plans bundled with Netflix, and the introduction of eSIM, UNI5G is positioned as an extension of household connectivity.

These innovations, bundled with entertainment, drive upsell opportunities, while eSIM reduces the cost-to-serve by eliminating physical SIM card logistics, aligning with TM’s broader ESG commitments.

The road ahead

The trajectory for the telecommunications industry is clear: households want integration, simplicity and value.

Convergence is no longer a differentiator but a baseline expectation.

Unifi’s future priorities include AI-driven personalisation within the UniVerse app, whole-of-home bundles that expand lifestyle integration, and new levers across entertainment, mobility and smart living to deliver even greater household value.

Anand said: “This strategy goes beyond convenience to cohesively bring together and enhance the services digital consumers need, delivering a one-stop ecosystem that addresses the core needs of digital consumers.

“At the heart of this convergence is our commitment to quality.

“When consumers think of Unifi, they can be confident that we provide every solution for today’s digital lifestyles, coupled with competitive packages that deliver strong value and experience.

“Convergence is the foundation of this vision, and by leading in this space, we are helping to realise TM’s broader aspiration of becoming a Digital Powerhouse by 2030, enabling Malaysia to thrive in an era where digital lifestyles drive national growth.”
