MPI to buy Infineon’s plant in Thailand


MPI will take over IFX’s back-end manufacturing site in Nonthaburi.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI) is acquiring semiconductor assembly and testing services firm Infineon Technologies (Thailand) Ltd from Spansion LLC, Spansion Inc and Cypress Semiconductor Corp for RM327.56mil.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the outsourced semiconductor packaging and testing services firm said Infineon Technologies operates a plant in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

“Infineon Technologies is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of IFX, a world leader in semiconductor solutions. IFX Group is an existing customer of MPI Group,” it said.

MPI will take over IFX’s back-end manufacturing site in Nonthaburi, which will facilitate further collaboration with the IFX Group.

It added that its business and that of Infineon Technologies are similar, given that both companies are involved in semiconductor assembly and testing.

The proposed acquisition is expected contribute positively to the MPI Group in the future.
