CelcomDigi records higher earnings in 2Q25

PETALING JAYA: CelcomDigi Bhd registered a stronger financial quarter, as both its revenue and profit increased on the back of continued revenue growth in postpaid and home and fibre.

For the second quarter ended June 30, 2025 (2Q25), Malaysia’s largest mobile network operator’s net profit also grew 5.5% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM438.94mil from RM406mil recorded in the same quarter a year ago.

It recorded a higher revenue of RM3.18bil, compared to RM3.11bil in the same quarter last year.

Earnings per share climbed to 3.74 sen from 3.46 sen in the comparative quarter.

In a statement, the group said revenue for postpaid grew 3.8% y-o-y to RM1.07mil aided by an increase of 328,000 subscribers from the high-value segment, higher take-up of convergence plans and strong performance from roaming and value added-services.

Prepaid revenue stood at RM1.05mil, with the subscriber base lowered by 376,000 following information technology (IT) rationalisation initiatives.

Home and fibre revenue sustained strong double-digit growth, rising 45.2% to RM61mil, marking the seventh consecutive quarter of subscriber gains.

“Growth was fuelled by driving convergence through the continued uptake of CelcomDigi One plans, alongside robust demand for high-speed and instant connectivity through fixed wireless access solutions,” the group said.

CelcomDigi closed the quarter with an additional 151,000 subscribers, bringing its total subscribers to 20.4 million.

CelcomDigi said the stronger quarter was also on the back of disciplined capital and operating expenditure management and the realisation of merger benefits.

The group added its integration and transformation initiatives are also progressing well across network, IT and retail operations.

For the six-month period ended June 30, 2025 (1H25), the telco’s net profit rose to RM822.71mil against RM782.48mil in the year-ago period, while six-month revenue grew to RM6.39bil compared to RM6.28bil in 1H24.

Chief executive officer Datuk Idham Nawawi said the group’s steady performance was marked by sustained revenue and improved profitability, reflecting the strong focus on driving long-term profitable growth, prudent capital spending and operational excellence across the group.

“We are pleased that our strategy and priorities are yielding expected returns, even against increasing competition and shifting market dynamics,” he said.

According to him, CelcomDigi is making good progress in one of the most complex IT consolidation projects, further enabling personalised digital experiences at scale.

“At the same time, our network integration and modernisation continue to bring stronger, more reliable network experience, while our award-winning retail transformation is delivering both differentiated service and better customer experiences,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the group said at the end of June 2025, its network integration and modernisation reached 84% completion.

On top of that, its retail transformation is nearing completion, with close to 60 new digital-concept stores launched to date, with the aim of higher sales productivity and better customer engagement.

“As a flow-through of cost efficiencies from all integration initiatives, the company remains on track to deliver steady-state annualised cost savings of around RM700mil to RM800mil post-2027.”
