Bid for steel relief tied to wider talks on US tariffs

“It continues to be something we work towards agreement with them on as part of a wider negotiation to agree a way forward on the so-called reciprocal tariffs – the 10%” business secretary Reynolds said. — Bloomberg

LONDON: The UK’s efforts to secure relief for steel exports to the United States are likely to be wrapped into broader tariff negotiations, says business secretary Jonathan Reynolds, in remarks that may dampen expectations for an imminent deal.

Reynolds, who oversaw trade negotiations for the UK, was pressed at an event on Wednesday here for clarity on when the nation’s steel industry would see US tariffs cut to zero as Prime Minister Keir Starmer promised after announcing an agreement with President Donald Trump last month.
