FBM KLCI rebounds; glovemakers lead Bursa's top losers list


KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI rebounded to close higher, while shares of glovemakers dominated the list of top losers on Bursa Malaysia, with Hartalega Holdings Bhd leading the decline.

At 5 pm, the 30-stock index rose 2.08 points, or 0.13%, to 1,584.84, its intraday high, as last-minute buying pushed it into positive territory

There were 397 gainers, 643 losers, and 477 counters traded unchanged on Bursa Malaysia. Turnover amounted to 3.62 billion shares, valued at RM2.65bil.

The top gainer on Bursa Malaysia was Malaysian Pacific Industries, which jumped 56 sen, or 2.71% to RM21.22.

United Plantations rose 20 sen to RM31.92, Kuala Lumpur Kepong added 20 sen to RM20.60 and HeiTech Padu gained 19 sen to RM2.81.

Bursa Malaysia has suspended intraday short selling (IDSS) of Hartalega and Kossan for the rest of the day after a sharp drop in their share prices.

Hartalega tumbled 23.24% or 79 sen to RM2.61 while Kossan fell 16.17% or 38 sen to RM1.97 as of 4:11 pm.

For other glovemakers, Top Glove slid 16 sen to RM1, Supermax lost nine sen to RM1.04, Comfort Gloves declined three sen to 36 sen and Careplus Group fell one sen to 23 sen.

Other decliners include Nestle, which lost 58 sen to RM90.54, Dutch Lady, which fell 38 sen to RM1.97, and PPB, which declined 24 sen to RM11.18.

ACE Market debutant TechStore closed up 10%, or two sen, to 22 sen, with 262.83 million shares traded, making it the most active counter on Bursa Malaysia.

On the forex market, the ringgit fell 0.3% against the US dollar to 4.4462.

The local currency also dropped 0.26% against the Singapore dollar to 3.3140.

Elsewhere in the region, Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.25% to 39,270.40, South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.63% to 2,626.81, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index closed up 1.59% at 22,976.81.

China’s CSI 300 Index declined 0.88% to 3,912.78, while the Shanghai Composite Index dropped 0.93% to 3,324.49.
