YTL AI Labs releases Malaysian LLM

KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Power International Bhd's AI innovation arm, YTL AI Labs, has announced the release of Ilmu 0.1, a Malaysian Large Language Model (LLM) built by Malaysians.

An LLM is advanced AI algorithm focusing on understanding and analysing text.

In a statement, the YTL AI Labs said Ilmu 0.1 outperforms other LLMs globally in Bahasa Melayu.

"Ilmu 0.1 demonstrates superior performance and a deep understanding of Malaysia’s culture and local context," it said.

Notably, YTL AI Labs said it successfully passed both PT3 and SPM national exams in the Malay language, underscoring its potential to support various sectors effectively in local applications and use cases.

"A Malaysian LLM that understands Bahasa Melayu and Malaysian local culture and context is crucial in advancing applications in all industries including finance, education, healthcare, and public services.” said Lou Yeoh, executive director of YTL AI Labs.
