Sime Darby's unit issues RM1.3bil sukuk murabahah

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Bhd's indirect wholly-owned subsidiary Sime Darby Enterprise Sdn Bhd today successfully issued the sukuk murabahah with a nominal value of RM1.3 billion.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the group said the issuance is part of its unrated Islamic commercial papers and Islamic medium-term notes programme of up to RM10 billion based on the Shariah principle of murabahah (via tawarruq arrangement) and is irrevocably and unconditionally guaranteed by Sime Darby.

Sime Darby said the sukuk was issued into three tranches, namely the first tranche of RM150 million with a one-year tenure, the second tranche of RM350 million with a three-year tenure, and the third tranche of RM800 million with a six-year tenure.

It said the proceeds would be utilised to refinance the outstanding sukuk murabahah maturing today. - Bernama
