Tenaga, YTL Corp power KLCI sharply higher


KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia finished higher on Monday, underpinned by gains in YTL Corp and Tenaga Nasional, which boosted the FBM KLCI.

At 5pm, the FBM KLCI rose 8.11 points, or 0.51% to 1,598.20 after hitting an intraday high of 1,598.36.

On the local stock exchange, 685 stocks ended higher, 408 closed in negative territory, and 450 remained unchanged. Turnover stood at 3.66 billion shares valued at RM2.76bil.

Tenaga Nasional rose 22 sen to RM14 pushing the index higher by 1.8426. YTL Corp added 17 sen to RM3.62, contributing 2.7099 points to the index and YTL Power gained eight sen to RM4.90, adding 0.9512 to the index.

On the broader market, Amway rose 28 sen to RM7.20, United Plantations climbed 26 to RM24.76 and Dutch Lady advanced 22 sen to RM36.40.

Among the decliners, Malaysian Pacific Industries slid 60 sen to RM38.82, Superlon fell 17 sen to RM1.13, Kuala Lumpur Kepong lost 16 sen to MR20.48 and Khind declined 13 sen to RM2.65.

Meanwhile, MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.09%.

Japan's Nikkei 225 edged 0.12% higher while South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.23%.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index closed up 0.01% and China’s CSI 300 index advanced 0.48%.
