FBM KLCI dips slightly ahead of US price data


KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI slipped slightly into the red at midday after a volatile session ahead of a key US inflation report.

At 12.30pm, the key index was down 1.98 points to 1,587.68.

The investor sentiment was negative, underpinned by a soft market with 693 decliners compared to 329 gainers and 421 stocks unchanged.

Among the top decliners, YTL Power slumped 22 sen to RM4.66 while YTL Corp shed 15 sen to RM3.29.

PETRONAS Gas slid 34 sen to RM18, PETONAS Chemicals fell eight sen to RM6.49 and Nestle lost 70 sen to RM122.30.

Some leading decliners on the broader market included Kelington slipping 23 sen to RM3.27, Unisem shedding 16 sen to RM4.04 and SAM Engineering dropping 16 sen to RM6.25.

Of actives, Ingenieur gained 0.5 sen to seven sen, Velesto added 0.5 sen to 25.5 sen and YGL rose 3.5 sen to 22 sen.

In key Asian markets, indices were mostly positive after a slow start. Japan's Nikkei rose 0.61% to 39,043 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.45% to 18,109.

China's composite index slid 0.38% to 2,951 while Singapore's Straits Times index added 0.28% to 3,323.
