Bursa Malaysia dips as nearly 700 stocks fall


KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia ended Friday in the red, pressured by profit-taking activities and a cautious market sentiment.

The FBM KLCI closed down 2.85 points, or 0.18% at 1,607.32, taking its full-week drop to 0.65%. All indices on Bursa Malaysia, apart from the financial services and transportation and logistics indices, were down.

Sellers led buyers by 677 to 561, while 469 counters traded unchanged. Volume was 5.65 billion shares, valued at RM3.92bil.

Dealers said a bout of profit taking sent many stocks lower today following yesterday’s gains.

PETRONAS Gas slid 34 sen to RM17.66, Dayang lost 28 sen to RM2.81, Kuala Lumpir Kepong fell 26 sen to RM20.50 and Ideal declined 19 sen to RM3.80.

Among the gainers, Nestle surged 90 sen to RM124.20, PIE Industrial jumped 89 sen to RM7.08, Dutch Lady rose 40 sen to RM37.80 and Ayer added 30 sen to RM7.30.

Among the key regional markets:

Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed up 0.24% to 38,814.56;

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index declined 0.94% to 17,941.78;

Shanghai Composite Index added 0.12% to 3,032.63;

Taiwan’s Taiex closed up 0.86% to 22,504.72;

South Korea’s Kospi advanced 0.13% to 2,758.42 and;

Singapore’s Straits Times Index fell 0.81% to 3,297.55 points.
