FBM KLCI ends first quarter trading day stronger


KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI ended the last trading day of the first quarter on a strong note.

The market bellwether rose 5.47 points, or 0.36% to 1,536.07 after moving between an intraday high of 1,542.0 and low of 1,532.03.

During the quarter, the index gained a whopping 87.73 points, or 5.6% from 1,454.66 points as at Dec 29, 2023. For the week, the index fell 0.41%, or 6.32 points.

There were 516 gainers, 469 losers and 502 counters traded unchanged on the Bursa Malaysia. Turnover stood at 3.06 billion shares valued at RM2.6bil.

Among the gainers, Dutch Lady surged RM2.66 to RM30.64, Malaysian Pacific Industries rose 70 sen to RM31, Apollo Food added 24 sen to RM7.39 and Crescendo gained 22 seb ti RM3.03.

United Plantations slid 52 sen to RM23.98, PPB fell 22 sen to RM15.38, LPI lost 16 sen to RM12.14 and MSM declined 15 sen to RM3.25.

Among the banks, CIMB added nine sen to RM6.64, Maybank rose four sen to RM9.69, RHB Bank gained three sen to RM5.67, Public Bank climbed one sen to RM4.22, Ambank advanced two sen to RM4.19 and Hong Leong Bank increased two sen to RM4.19.

Meanwhile, the ringgit was quoted at 4.7277, up 0.14% against the US dollar.

Markets were shut in Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and the US.
