Bursa Malaysia extends losses; Rapid Synergy hits limit down


KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia finished lower on Thursday as investors continued to play on the selling side.

Under persistent selling interest, the FBM KLCI closed down 3.86 points, or 0.26% at 1,483.0.

In the broader market, losers outnumbered gainers with 568 stocks ending lower and 406 stocks finishing higher. Activities were encouraging with 4.64 billion shares worth RM3bil changed hands.

The three stocks linked to Datuk Dr Yu Kuan Chon are among the top losers on Bursa Malaysia. Rapid continued its downtrend, tumbling RM4.88, or 29.79% to RM11.50. YNH Property slid 95 sen to RM2.72 and Imaspro fell 51 sen to RM1.99.

Nestle lost 20 sen to RM119.80, Genting fell 19 sen to RM4.68, Genting Malaysia declined 17 sen to RM2.68 and PETRONAS Chemicals eased 12 sen to RM6.88.

Among the gainers, BLD Plantation jumped 98 sen to RM10.98, Heineken added 48 sem tp RM24.20, Genting Plantations rose 29 sen to RM6.30 and Frontken climbed 27 sen to RM3.58.

On the forex market, the ringgit was flat against the greenback at 4.6420. The local unit fell 0.31% against the pound sterling to 5.9258, down 0.3% against the euro at 5.0972 and 0.17% lower against the Singapore dollar at 3.4928.

US West Texas Intermediate crude rose 32 cents to US$71.69 and Brent gained 41 cents to US$77.21 per barrel.

Around the region, MSCI's Asia ex-Japan stock index was firmer by 0.76%.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 ended up 1.77% at 35,049.86, while South Korea’s Kospi ended 0.067% lower at 2,540.27.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index closed up 1.27% at 16,302.04 and China’s blue-chip CSI300 index ended up 0.57% at 3,295.67.
