MAHB registers over 10mil total passenger movements in October

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) registered more than 10 million total passenger movements in October 2023, despite the month being generally a low season month for travelling.

“International and domestic passenger movements registered 5.1 million and 5.0 million passengers, an increase of 40.3% and 7.0% respectively over the same month last year reaching more than 87% of pre-pandemic levels for both sectors,” the airport operator said in a statement.

In the first ten months of 2023, MAHB’s network handled 98.9 million passengers, reaching 84.7% over the same period in 2019, an indication that traffic continues to move at the right trajectory towards recovery.

MAHB said airports in Malaysia recorded 6.8 million passengers, reaching 79.6% of 2019 levels, and an increase of 25.5% compared to October 2022.

It added that the international and domestic sector equally contributed 50% to total passenger movements, registering 3.4 million passengers each, an increase of 60.8% and 3.0% over October 2022.

MAHB said Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SGIA) passenger movements continue to surpass 2019 levels since May 2023 with October 2023 recording 3.3 million passengers, a growth of 5.9% over October 2019.

International passenger movements continue to surpass pre-pandemic levels at 133.1% with 1.7 million passengers, while domestic passenger movements registered 1.6 million passengers reaching 86.5%.
