Bursa records RM613mil net foreign selling


KUALA LUMPUR: The foreign selling of equities on Bursa Malaysia amounted to RM613mil in the week after having registered net purchases of RM10.2mil in the week prior.

According to MIDF Research, foreign investors net sold local equities every day of the week with the highest net outflow posted last Monday at RM208.7mil.

Over the course of the week, the highest net outflows were recorded in financial services, consumer products and services as well as telecommunications and media.

Only three sectors recorded net inflows, namely utilities, property and real estate investment trusts.

Local institutions, meanwhile, remained net buyers for a third straight week at RM618.3mi.

Local retailers, however, continued being net sellers on the market at RM5.3mil, which was a much smaller amount than RM147.1mil in the week before.

In terms of participation, MIDF Research said there was an increase in average daily trading volume among foreign investors by 31.6% while retail and institutional investors saw declines of 2.2% and 6.7% respectively.
