Fiscal deficit target feasible


PETALING JAYA: Economists agree that the government’s fiscal deficit target at 5% of gross domestic product (GDP) is achievable despite the risk of it incurring higher expenditure in the second half of the year (2H23).

The slower economic growth, higher subsidy spending and new cash handouts may pose a risk and increase government spending in 2H23, they said.
