Addressing a thorny issue

Mun says four countries have been given permission to export the “King of Fruits” to China, namely, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia, with the northern neighbour holding more than the lion’s share of 90%.

WHILE China is ripe for the plucking as a major destination for Malaysia’s durian industry, there remains a number of concerns that need immediate attention, particularly in terms of competition among regional countries that are also exporting the “king of fruits” to the republic.

Foremost among the matters is the documentation of various data of the exported produce, which in turn will give the local durian farming industry and players a better control over the trade of the fruit.
