ALOR SETAR: Bina Darulaman Bhd (BDB) has six big projects in Kedah involving various business sectors with gross development value (GDV) amounting to RM1.5 billion until June this year.

BDB chairman Che Had Dhali said the projects are the efforts of the Kedah state government to improve the comfort and living standards of the people in the state.

"Most of the projects implemented involve the development of townships and affordable housing, namely Darulaman Lagenda, Sungai Petani; Darulaman Saujana, Kubang Pasu and Aman Nusa in Langkawi.

"The three projects have a GDV amounting to RM1.3 billion and can benefit people living in the Sungai Petani, Kubang Pasu and Langkawi districts,” he told reporters after officiating at the 28th BDB annual general meeting here today.

He said that in addition to the three projects, BDB Infra Sdn Bhd (BISB) which is a wholly owned subsidiary of BDB was also entrusted by the state government with a road maintenance contract worth RM204 million in the state.

"It involves Zone 1 comprising Kota Setar, Padang Terap/Pokok Sena, Kubang Pasu, Pendang, Yan and Sik districts.

BISB was also successful in the Tertiary Irrigation System project bid with a contract value of RM34.08 million as well as the acquisition of Gemi Puncak Quarry, Langkawi with a value of RM13 million," he said.

In the meantime, Che Had said BDB also recorded an encouraging performance for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2022 with a profit before tax amounting to RM9 million, an increase from RM7.8 million in 2021.

"Income also increased from RM201.7 million in 2021 to RM231.4 million in 2022, while also increasing cash reserves from RM66.3 million to RM79.9 million for the same period,” he said.

Meanwhile, when asked about the progress of upgrading Pelubang's water treatment plant which involved a cost of RM431 million, BDB group executive director Raja Shahreen Raja Othman said it was going smoothly according to the set schedule.

"We know this water issue is indeed a problem faced by every state including Kedah, so BDB hopes that with this project, it can solve the water problem for the people of Kedah,” he said. - Bernama
