Volume index of services up 11.7% in 4Q22


KUALA LUMPUR: The Volume Index of Services rose 11.7 per cent year-on-year to 142.6 points in the fourth quarter (4Q) of 2022 versus 127.7 points in the same quarter last year, said the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM). The base year is 2015.

Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the rise was stimulated by wholesale and retail trade, food and beverage (F&B) and accommodation segments at 12.2 per cent, followed by business services and finance segment (11.6 per cent), information and communication and transportation and storage segment (10.6 per cent) and other services segment (13.3 per cent).

On a quarterly basis, the Volume Index of Services rose by 1.6 per cent to 142.6 points from 140.4 points in the previous 3Q. DoSM said quarterly, the seasonally adjusted volume index of the sector dropped 3.6 per cent to 137.1 points.

"The wholesale and retail trade, accommodation and F&B segments were the major contributor to this fall, recording a negative growth of 3.7 per cent,” DoSM said. - Bernama
