Perodua hits record sales of 282,019 units in 2022

Moving forward, Zainal Abidin said Perodua and its partners are going to leverage on the growth achieved so far and to further expand capacity.

KUALA LUMPUR: Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) achieved its best performance with a 48.2% increase in 2022 sales to 282,019 units compared with 190,291 units in 2021.

The national compact carmaker reported that production grew 49.5% to 289,054 units during the year while after-sales intakes increased 30% to 2.6 million units.

Perodua president and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said Perodua’s achievement was underpinned by the country’s automotive industry’s shared responsibility in maximising its potential and meeting customers’ expectations in 2022.

“The industry did a lot of soul searching and from the learning points obtained during the pandemic, we realised that we needed to take active steps to recover in 2021.

“The year also saw its fair share of challenges and from there the company had maximised the ecosystem’s potential in 2022,” he said in a statement.

Zainal Abidin added that Perodua and its partners overcame challenges and found growth despite disruptions during the year caused by the massive flood, shortage of workers at the supplier level due to Covid-19 as well as the shortage of semiconductor chips and the increase in raw material prices.

Moving forward, he said Perodua and its partners are going to leverage on the growth achieved so far and to further expand capacity.

“For this to come true, we hope material and fuel prices will remain manageable; at the same time, we also hope that foreign exchange and interest rates will be favourable to industry growth,” he said.

He added that for now, if the factors remained within acceptable levels, Perodua would maintain its vehicle prices.

According to Zainal Abidin, Perodua will also continue to introduce new technologies in its future products and services and continue to invest in innovations in its operations.

“In addition, we will also encourage our partners, namely our suppliers and dealers, to continue to invest in new technologies so that they can be more competitive and productive.

“We will announce the full list of our targets later in January but I wish to take this opportunity to thank the government for its continued support, our partners for their dedication, Perodua emplyees for their sacrifice and hard work, and especially to our valued customers for their loyal support,” he said.
