SC appoints two new MDs, deputy chief exec to step down

The SC said Kamarudin and Azalina will assist the chairman in setting the overall strategic direction for the Malaysian capital market and in overseeing the commission’s dual mandate of capital market regulation and development.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Securities Commission (SC) has appointed Kamarudin Hashim and Datin Azalina Adham as its new managing directors, effective Jan 1.

The SC said in a statement that Kamarudin and Azalina will assist the chairman in setting the overall strategic direction for the Malaysian capital market and in overseeing the commission’s dual mandate of capital market regulation and development.

It said both individuals will continue to oversee their current portfolios of market and corporate supervision; and strategy and policy respectively.

Meanwhile, the SC said its deputy chief executive Datuk Zainal Izlan Zainal Abidin will step down on Jan 11 to pursue other interests.

“Datuk Zainal Izlan has helped lead the growth of the Islamic Capital Market and the SC’s Sustainable and Responsible Investment agenda, both in Malaysia and abroad,” chairman Datuk Seri Awang Adek Hussin said in the statement.

“On behalf of the board and staff of the SC, I wish him the best in his future endeavours,” he added.
