Toyota, Perodua sales continue to boost UMW

PETALING JAYA: UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) and UMW’s associate company, Perodua, will continue to intensify production for quicker vehicle deliveries, according to UMW Holdings Bhd president and group CEO Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali.

In a statement, he said both companies is still seeing strong consumer demand, as evident from the encouraging sales registered in the third quarter.

“The outstanding bookings for UMWT and Perodua remain robust. Supported by improving supply chain and barring unforeseen circumstances, we are confident of achieving our sales targets for the year,” said Ahmad Fuaad.

The UMW Group’s automotive sales in the third quarter was the highest for 2022, with 93,972 units delivered (compared with 89,183 units in the second quarter).

Both UMWT and Perodua registered higher sales in the third quarter.

For the first nine months, the UMW Group delivered a total of 267,226 units (a 62% increase). September was the best month for UMWT which saw deliveries of 9,233 units. The third quarter was also the strongest for UMWT, as its automotive sales grew by 6% to 24,961 units.

Its best-selling models were the Toyota Vios, Hilux, Corolla Cross and Yaris. UMWT will be launching the all-new Toyota Veloz soon.

For the first nine months, UMWT registered 70,872 units (a 54% growth).

Meanwhile, Perodua’s sales in September 2022 fell slightly month-on-month to 24,626 units.

However, Perodua’s sales was 5% higher quarter-on-quarter with 69,011 units registered in the third quarter.

For the first nine months of 2022, Perodua’s sales surged by 65% to 196,354 units.
