MyCEB organises events worth RM352mil to date

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) has organised 75 business events in the country, up to August this year, translating into a contribution of RM352mil.

Among the business events were the World Congress of Nephrology 2022, International Printing, Paper, Packaging Machinery Exhibition 2022 and the 21st International Architecture, Interior Design and Building Exhibition 2022.

Chief executive officer Datuk Seri Abdul Khani Daud said the reopening of Malaysia’s border allowed MyCEB to reshape the business events industry and restore economic activities in the country.

“We launched our Malaysia Business Events Strategic Marketing Plan for 2021 to 2030, aimed at bringing more large-scale events here, including a plan to bid for the World Expo.

“So far, we have successfully won 166 business event bids for 2022 to 2030,” he told Bernama.

Abdul Khani said that over the past 12 years, the many business events held in Malaysia have led a thriving industry.

It has enabled MyCEB and its strategic partners to host 1,651 business events, which duly generated an estimated RM16.7bil to the economy.

With this, he said it is hoped that the Finance Ministry would commits a bigger allocation in Budget 2023 for MyCEB. which in turn would help it to secure more business in the near future.

Commenting on the Meet in Malaysia @ Malaysia Business Events Week 2022 (MIM @ MBEW 2022), which starts today and runs until Sept 1, he said the event comprises several activities such as business to business sessions, workshops and strategic roundtables.

Around 700 delegates and 35 speakers from around the globe are expected to join this seventh annual event to discuss the growth and sustainability of the business events industry.

The theme of the four-day interactive event is “Reshaping Business Events”, Abdul Khani said.

“This year’s theme has been created to revive Malaysia’s business events ecosystem by exchanging knowledge and building relationships to elevate professionalism with resilience,” he said.

“It will also promote Malaysia as a global business events destination, highlighting its accessibility, its tourist attractions, state-of-the-art infrastructure and the famed Malaysian hospitality,” he said.

He added that the highlight of the event is a signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia.

“It is our hope that through international collaborations, Malaysia will in the future stage more prominent conferences and exhibitions that will uplift the business events industry scene,” he said.

MIM @ MBEW 2022 is being held at the World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur, and will be officiated by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

In conjunction with this year’s event, MyCEB last week initiated a corporate social responsibility programme initiative known as “Lend a Hand”.

It is an undertaking at Zoo Negara in Kuala Lumpur, where 60 children from Pertubuhan Rahoma Darul Fakir helped refurbish some of the zoo facilities, and thus helped create an awareness for wildlife and what it really means in our society today, and for the future. — Bernama
