June wholesale, retail trade jumps


Chief statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the improved performance was attributed to the retail trade sub-sector, which rose RM15.6bil or 38.45%, to RM56.2bil, while wholesale trade expanded 19.3%, or RM9.8bil, to RM60.5bil.

PETALING JAYA: Wholesale and retail trade registered a sturdy growth of 44% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM132.8bil in June, with a huge surge in motor vehicle sales, the Statistics Department has said.

Chief statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the improved performance was attributed to the retail trade sub-sector, which rose RM15.6bil or 38.45%, to RM56.2bil, while wholesale trade expanded 19.3%, or RM9.8bil, to RM60.5bil.

“Within the same period, motor vehicle sales surged 1,642.8% or RM15.2bil to RM16.1bil,” said the department, Bernama reported.

For a month-on-month comparison, the sales value increased 2.5%, contributed by the motor vehicle sub-sector, which rose 15.8%.
