LOS ANGELES: Billionaire sports moguls E. Stan Kroenke and Steve Ballmer are betting sizable shares of their personal fortunes that masses of people will want to gather again.

They’re building the biggest new urban development in the western US, with Kroenke’s US$5.5bil (RM22.8bil) SoFi Stadium as its centrepiece. The National Football League stadium – home to the Kroenke-owned Los Angeles Rams and the rival Chargers – opened in the middle of the pandemic, with no fans in its 70, 000 seats.
