CCK’s new plant boosts chicken sausage output

KUCHING: CCK Consolidated Holdings Bhd’s newly-commissioned manufacturing plant in Pontianak, west Kalimantan has boosted the production of chicken sausages.Group managing director Tiong Chiong Hiiung (pic) said the higher sausage production volume would cater to the increasing demand from consumers.

“Sausages continue to be the group’s best seller in Indonesia whilst the sales of nuggets continues to gain momentum.

“All products from our two factories in Jarkata and Pontianak are sold to our network of six locally partnered Fresh Mart outlets in Pontianak and also to third parties in Jarkata and Pontianak, ” he said in the company’s 2020 annual report.

CCK’s core businesses are retailing and poultry farming. As Sarawak’s largest integrated poultry supplier, its supply chain consists of a feed mill, breeder farms, a hatchery, broiler farms, layer farm, abattoirs and retail stores.

Although the new Pontianak factory cum warehouse was completed in fourth quarter 2020, the installation of machinery and commencement of operations were delayed to the first quarter of this year because of transportation delays due to the pandemic. The new factory complex comprises of downline food processing of sausages, burgers, meatballs and other products, a coldroom and chicken abattoir.

For financial year ended Dec 31,2020, the Indonesian operations increased its revenue contributions to CCK group to RM116.1mil from RM106mil in FY2019.

“Revenue in Indonesia increased, resulting from increased production and sales of sausages and nuggets, ” Tiong said. He said the group’s Indonesian operations were not affected by Covid-19 as the Indonesian authorities did not declare a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the virus.
