KUALA LUMPUR: Unisem (M) Bhd posted a net profit or RM45.41mil in the first quarter ended March 31 against a net loss of RM2.82mil a year ago due to higher sales.
The group’s revenue jumped 46.6% to RM373.93mil from continuing operations in the first quarter against RM255.15mil recorded in the last corresponding quarter ended March 31, 2020.
The semiconductor group said the improvement in revenue and net profit was mainly attributable to higher sales volume.
Unisem recorded profit before tax of RM52.77mil in the first quarter compared with RM56.84mil reported in the preceding quarter ended Dec 31, 2020.
“The lower profit before taxation was mainly attributable to a difference in product mix, higher payroll cost, higher depreciation charges and the depreciation of the US dollar against ringgit exchange rates,” it said in the notes accompanying its financial results.
Commenting on its prospects, Unisem said its directors expect the performance of the group to be satisfactory for the next financial quarter.
