Sharil steps down from Opcom

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi will be stepping down as Opcom Holdings Bhd’s independent non-executive chairman with immediate effect following his appointment by the Finance Minister to the board of Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB).

DNB is a special purpose vehicle owned by the government tasked with the development of a wholesale 5G network for Malaysia.

In a filing, Opcom explained that as part of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) regulatory compliance for good governance to DNB, a director of DNB shall not be a director or officer of a telecommunications equipment provider.
