TNB to boost bumi vendor participation

KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) intends to increase the percentage of bumiputra vendor participation and value-added in the utility company’s vendor group.

President/chief executive officer Datuk Baharin Din said the increase in the percentage of bumiputra vendors was for the country’s electricity supply project.

“Our total annual procurement is RM8bil and 53% are bumiputra.

“Our strategy, for example, is ‘smart meters’ which we are providing local vendors in terms of installation, manufacturing so that the percentage of local tender involvement in smart meters is 100% in future, ” he said. — Bernama

To date, TNB has about 800 local vendors and 30 local manufacturers. — Bernama
