SEOUL: South Korea’s jobless rate unexpectedly jumped to the highest since 1999 in January as the country kept tight restrictions in place to rein in local coronavirus outbreaks.

The unemployment rate rose to 5.4% in January from a revised 4.5% the previous month, the statistical office reported
