UMW Holdings projecting higher car sales

The new Vios and Yaris facelifts, which have secured over 2,000 and 1,500 bookings respectively since their launch in December 2020, are expected to drive sales this year. Both models made up 58% of UMWT’s sales in 2020.

PETALING JAYA: UMW Holdings Bhd’s management is upbeat on the group’s growth prospects in the financial year ending Dec 31,2021 (FY21), driven by new car model launches and rising demand for auto components. This is on the back of the extension of the sales tax holiday until June 30 this year.

A CGS-CIMB Research report said UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd’s (UMWT) sales are expected to grow by 16% year-on-year to 69,000 in 2021, driven by the new Toyota Vios, Yaris, Fortuner, Innova facelifts and a new C-segment sports utility vehicle (SUV) model.
