October industrial output shrinks 0.5%, worse than forecast

October industrial production index shrinks for the first time since July.

KUALA LUMPUR: The industrial production index (IPI) in October shrank by 0.5% from a year ago, which was below a Bloomberg survey of 0.2% increase, and it was the first contraction since July.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said on Friday the decline in the IPI was due to the significant decrease of 10.6% in the mining index.
