Expanding seafood and fisheries business opportunities with BISFE

THE Busan International Seafood and Fisheries Expo, also known as BISFE, is one of the top three seafood and fisheries trade fairs in Asia and the largest leading seafood and fisheries exhibition in South Korea.

In this expo, it features up to 430 exhibitors from around 30 countries. It provides an optimal environment for the South Korean and overseas seafood and fisheries experts to expand their business opportunities.

In 2020, the annual BISFE that was supposed to take place in Bexco, Busan, South Korea has moved online due to the current Covid-19 situation.

The K·FISH Kuala Lumpur Trade Support Center, as assigned by the South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, has provided their pivotal support by providing business matching services to the local companies in Malaysia in order for them to participate in the online BISFE business-to-business meetings.

The online business matching dates were aligned with the exhibition dates in South Korea from November 5 to 7. It enabled the local companies who were interested in meeting South Korea seafood products exporters to meet up online directly for business exchange.

Regardless of the virtual form of meeting, K·FISH has made strong efforts in contacting local companies and matches them with their company of interest. A total of 17 meetings were done over three days of BISFE.

Among them, four MOUs amounting to US$1.44mil (RM5.89mil) were sealed as a result of the business matching. Many local importers were also keen in finding out new products to add to their business and K·FISH is ready to provide support to them in order make the trade relationship a successful and long lasting one.

Every year, K·FISH brings approximately 10 local companies from Malaysia to Busan, South Korea to attend this expo as an initiative to promote trade between Malaysia and South Korea.

Along the benefits provided include one economic round-way air ticket, three nights’ accommodation, as well as interpretation services during business matchings and industrial tours.

For future BISFEs when travelling between borders are allowed, K·FISH aims to continue provide as much support as possible to local Malaysian importers that are interested in Korean seafood products.

K·FISH is a national export brand by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries South Korea. Products labeled K·FISH are products that have went through meticulous inspection by the South Korean government to ensure that products exported are of the best quality and safe to consume.

K·FISH Kuala Lumpur Seafood Trade Support Center located in Kuala Lumpur is one of the 10 support centers around the globe. Its purpose is to aid local Malaysia, Singapore or Indonesia importers interested in Korean seafood products.
