KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) aims to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions (NZCE) by 2050 as part of its holistic approach to sustainability; balancing environment, social and governance considerations.

The national oil firm said the NZCE is aligned to the group’s statement of purpose, which is to be a progressive energy and solutions partner, enriching lives for a sustainable future.

President and group chief executive officer, Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz said Petronas is embracing its role in providing businesses and the society with access to affordable, secure and sustainable energy.

"The group is committed to fulfil its purpose in providing cleaner energy and solutions that benefit the world we live in, as well as the customers we serve through reduced emissions,” he said in a statement today.

The NZCE aspiration by 2050 is guided by the Petronas Sustainability Agenda, which demonstrates the group’s long-term commitment to Continued Value Creation; Safeguarding the Environment; Positive Social Impact and Responsible Governance throughout its integrated value chain.

To complement its new aspiration, Petronas also launched its new brand positioning, "Passionate about Progress", which demonstrates the company’s commitment to continue developing winning, progressive and sustainable solutions. - Bernama
