Samsung Electronics operating profit hits two-year high


Market watchers said global demand, especially for smartphones and consumer electronics, partially recovered due to the reopening of businesses in major economies following the shutdowns on worry about the virus spread. Samsung’s mobile phone-making unit was estimated to have recorded an operating profit at around the middle four trillion won during the July-September quarter.

SEOUL: Samsung Electronics, South Korea’s technology behemoth, hit its highest operating profit in two years amid a partial recovery in global demand after the downturn from the Covid-19 virus pandemic, the company said.

Preliminary figures for operating profit amounted to 12.3 trillion won (US$10.6bil) in the July-September quarter, up 58.1% from a year earlier.
