KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia got off the starting block on a firm note eary Friday, with Hartalega and Top Glove giving the FBM KLCI the much needed boost.
At 9.14am, the KLCI was up 11.05 points or 0.74% to 1,511.85. Turnover was 546.09 million shares valued at RM468.23mil. The broader market was firm with 344 gainers to 125 losers and 274 counters unchanged.
Key Asian markets also traded higher, taking their cue from Wall Street. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 futures rose 0.12% and Japan's Nikkei 225 futures added 0.13%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index futures rose 0.45%. MSCI's gauge of stocks across the globe shed 0.43%, according to Reuters.
At Bursa on Thursday, local retail investors turned net sellers at RM111.1mil while local institutions were net buyers at RM68.9mil and foreign funds at RM42.2mil.
Hartalega rose 86 sen to RM16.76 and added 4.58 points to the KLCI while Top Glove advanced 37 sen to RM8.92 and pushed the index up 4.58 points.
Kossan rose 70 sen to RM13.70, Supermax 25 sen to RM8.66 and Careplus 16 sen to RM3.31.
Other gainers were Maybank, up five sen to RM7.14, Public Bank eight sen to RM15.60 and CIMB two sen to RM3.07. Hong Leong Bank gave up 24 sen to RM14.70/
Tenaga gained six sen to RM10.88 while Time dotCom added 18 sen to RM11.98.
Other decliners were KL Kepong, down 18 sen to RM22.60, MISC 13 sen to RM7.32 and MMAG 4.5 sen to 75 sen.
